NUDIST AND NATURIST ACCOMM
If you like to enjoy your tropical vacation without the restriction of clothing - or maybe you just like to pack real light - you've come to the right place. Our Tropical North Queensland climate means that it's warm all year round. With the choice of 'nude friendly' or 'clothing optional' accommodations around the region, you'll be soaking up our laid back lifestyle and basking in our sunshine as free as the day you were born. You'll literally feel your worries fading away. Just don't forget the sunscreen!
SOME PROPERTIES BELOW ARE 'CLOTHING OPTIONAL'. OTHERS MAY BE 'NUDE ONLY'. SOME CATER TO FAMILIES AND SOME ONLY TO ADULTS. THIS WILL BE MADE CLEAR IN THE RESPECTIVE DESCRIPTIONS; PLEASE READ THEM CAREFULLY.
Australians are renowned for our laid back attitude, and nowhere is this more evident than in Tropical North Queensland. But somehow nude sunbathing is still illegal in Queensland. In fact, Queensland has been taunted as being the largest piece of land in the world without a 'free beach'.
But this doesn't stop sunloving Queenslanders - and visitors for that matter - from finding a secluded patch of sand where they can enjoy the tropical sunshine the way nature intended. In a small number of locations along Tropical North Queensland's coastline, nudity seems to be accepted. Around Cairns, the nearest such unofficial 'clothes optional' beach is Buchans Point, at the very southern end of Ellis Beach. Nudists and naturists have been enjoying Buchans Point since the 1950's. Another beach where nudism is unofficially recognized (this one privately owned) is the aptly named Nudey Beach on Fitzroy Island. Fitzroy Island can be reached by ferry from Cairns. North of the Daintree River, it is not unusual to come across topless and nude bathers in the secluded near-deserted coves and bays of the Cape Tribulation area, especially once you venture north of Cow Bay.
Other reported nude-friendly beaches in the region are:
But if you're not close to one of these unofficial 'clothing optional' beaches, or you just don't fancy your chances with the local law enforcement, don't despair. There are plenty of 'clothing optional' accommodation choices around Tropical North Queensland, from nudist resorts to nude friendly homestays and bed and breakfasts.
