But if you're looking for the freedom to do your own thing, Cooktown Cruises and Boat Rental will rent you a boat for a half day or full day hire, and you can go exploring the the Annan or Endeavour Rivers.

ENDEAVOUR RIVER ECO CRUISE

Departing at 1:00 pm Tuesday to Sunday (throughout the season) this two hour eco cruise will be one of the highlights of your stay in Cooktown. "Cooktown Cruises" is a locally owned business and you are invited to share in a scenic cruise on the historic Endeavour River. You will be welcomed aboard 'Flying Fish II', which is a shallow draught cruise boat, specially designed for river travel. It is approximately 9m long and carries 24 passengers.

On your tour you will see one of Australia's most historic harbours where, in 1770, Lt. James Cook beached the 'Endeavor' to repair damage that was sustained on a reef near Hope Island. You will hear some of the Chinese and European history from the gold rush days and be shown the oldest brick building left on Cape York.

Wildlife, in particular birds, a crocodile nest and sometimes basking crocodiles, are a feature of this cruise along with information on the mangroves. Sometimes the skipper has crab pots in the river and on inspection you may be able to say "we caught a Mud Crab on our trip".

Cruising down the river on any day of the week is an experience not to be missed. So come along, relax and be entertained on a beautiful eco-tour. Booking Essential. People travelling with pets are most welcome.

WATER TAXI TRIPS

Take a Water Taxi to the North shore of the Endeavour River for a picnic or beachcombing. Escape for a romantic picnic or take a group of friends for a walk on the beautiful white sandy beach.

Groups from 2 to 24 people can travel - all prices are for a return trip - with pick up guaranteed. Departure is subject to weather conditions.

BOAT RENTAL - Fishing and Sightseeing

Go Fishing or sightseeing on either the Annan or Endeavour River. Cooktown Cruises and Boat Rental have a range of boats available, with either a 6 horsepower motor (no licence required) or larger motors, suited to licenced operators.

Boats are avilable for half-day or full day hire, except on public holidays when a 2 hour minium hire rate will apply to the 6 horsepower boat and motor. All hire boats are subject to favourable weather conditions. Fuel and GST are included in the price. A Security Deposit is required for all boats.
