AUGUST 2008 - WIN A SAILING TRIP ON THE HISTORIC DUYFKEN
You could have the opportunity to participate with the crew in the sailing of this 1606 replica - pulling on a line and climbing the rigging - or just sit back and watch, and enjoy a daysail around Trinity Inlet.

The prize is a pass for two people, and all you need to do to enter is answer this simple question:

When Maria and I visited the Duyfken last year, who did we take with us?
*You will find the answer if you search our blog, at www.cairnsunlimited.com/blog

The runner-up will win a free pass to visit the Duyfken in Cairns Marina.

All entries will go into the draw, the winners to be chosen on the 31st August. Good luck!

APRIL 2008 - 'GUESS THIS PHOTO' COMPETITION
This competition - like life itself, according to former Australian Prime Minister Malcom Fraser - was not meant to be easy. It was meant to be intriguing. What the hell is this a photograph of? Well, we may reveal a little more of the photograph as the competition progresses, and it will become easier to guess. So even if you're just taking a stab in the dark, get your guess in and you could be a winner. As an exception to our general competition guidelines, you may submit as many different entries as you like. The winner will be the first correct entry chosen at random at the close of competition.

WINNER: MEGAN, FROM CAIRNS
RUNNER-UP: SLIVIA, FROM SPAIN

CLICK HERE TO SEE THE ANSWER!!! Guess what this is a photgraph of, and win a great prize.

*** THE PRIZE ***

With ANZAC DAY just around the corner, we thought it an opportune time to offer as a prize a copy of Roy Kyle's famous book, "An Anzac's Story", the moving story of author's youth as he enlisted at the tender age of seventeen, and was sent to the other side of the world to fight for King and Country. In keeping with the historic Australian wartime theme, the winner will also score a great Australian DVD, your choice of "THE THIN RED LINE", filmed in our own Daintree area (available in PAL format region 2 or 4) or "BREAKER MORANT" (available in NTSC or multi-regional PAL)

*** CONSOLATION PRIZES ***
In addition, consolation prizes will be awarded to the closest not-quite-correct guess, and the most embarrassingly ridiculous guess. Consolation prizes will consist of a Cairns Unlimited promo pack, including a rockin' Cairns Unlimited tshirt, stubby cooler, pen, fridge magnet, and postcards.

MARCH 2008 - 'PLACE NAMES' COMPETITION
It's been a while since our last competition, so here goes...

Everyone knows that Australia is a land of strange animals, strange plants, and in many cases... strange people! And we also have more than our fair share of strange place names. This new competition is a celebration of our weird and wonderful Aussie place names, starting with our own home, just north of Cairns at "Yorkeys Knob". To give away this month are copies of some classic Aussie literature... well, not really... Lucky winners will walk away with a copy of one of these little beauties...

* the recently published book, "Yorkeys Knob" by Paula Robson
* the Aussie Classic??? "The Road To Buggery", by Mark Whittaker and Amy Willesee
* continuing on the dual theme of "Aussie" and "strange", a copy of the 1971 original "Dinkum Dunnies".

WINNER: ANGELA, FROM PORT DOUGLAS
RUNNER-UP: GLENN, FROM U.S.A

BUT HOW DO YOU ENTER???

IT'S EASY! JUST ANSWER TWO QUESTIONS...

1. Something quite interesting happened at Yorkeys Knob recently. Two things in fact, and both happened on Tuesday the 4th March. Tell us what those two things were. HINT

2. Tell us the name of one town or area featured on our website, that you feel has a strange place name. *Yorkeys Knob - for obvious reasons - does not count*

Winners will be chosen at random, or by the cleverness of their replies, or by whatever method we deem appropriate at the time. Entrants who also post cheerful, funny or witty responses on our Cairns Unlimited blog may receive preferential treatment when it comes to dishing out prizes ... or not.

CLASSIFIEDS COMPETITION
Then we kickstarted our FREE ONLINE CLASSIFIEDS and everyone who posted an ad on our Classifieds in November went in the draw to win one of a whole host of prizes... stubby coolers, tshirts, books, DVD's and free passes to local attractions. Items for sale and wanted, employment, accommodation, personal ads, even business services... get posting!

Sorry, but since our Classifieds are only for Tropical North Queensland, this particular competition was only for Tropical North Queensland residents or people in Tropical North Queensland.

To the rest of you... your turn is coming soon!

PHOTO COMPETITION
In November 2007, we launched the first of our Readers' Photo competitions. Readers sent in photos of themselves having fun anywhere in Tropical North Queensland, along with a couple of paragraphs to accompany the photo (between 150 and 500 words). Photos and stories used in our Readers' Photo Gallery win a prize!

Just one entry per person please, so choose your best photo. Photos should be no more than 200 kilobytes in size. Sorry, but photographs larger than 200 kilobytes, or without accompanying text, will not be accepted. Photographs received before the 1st of November will not be accepted (so be patient).

We will be looking for a range of photos, showing the wide cross section of destinations, attractions, and activities in Tropical North Queensland.

SMALL PRINT

1. While you are encouraged to submit entries to all of our competitions, we would suggest not trying to enter any one competition more than once.

2. In the case of prizes being offered by a third party, once the sponsor company has notified you of your win, the agreement is between you and them. If there are any conflicts (and we don't see why there would be, but we're just being over cautious here) we would do our best to help resolve them, but would not take any responsibility.

3. It is always a possibility that one person may win more than one competition. This does not signify any foul play, just good luck. Winners will be chosen at random or according to whatever means we have specified in the entry details .

4. No correspondence will be entered into. We're not sure what this means, but it's always at the bottom of every competition, so we were loathe to omit it. We guess it means that if you don't win, don't come crying to us about it. Life goes on.
